Slab Pouring

There was some excitement in Doss today... the slab for the new firehouse is being poured! (April 6, 2015)

Ground Breaking for New Firehouse

Over the past several years the Doss Volunteer Fire Department has explored various alternatives to achieve additional and more functional space for housing firefighting equipment.  The current fire house is on property owned by the Doss Community Club, which also makes the site available for use by the Doss School.  Between growing needs of the Fire Department and the School there are limited expansion alternatives which are practical and do not inhibit future plans.

In April 2014 Mike Porter and Mary Batten offered the Fire Department land for a building site along with a very generous contribution towards building a new fire station, which the  DVFD members gratefully accepted.  A Building Committee (Danny Reeh, Kenny Priess, Kurt Geistweidt, Ralph Rode, Stephen Stengel and Gary Lynn Hahn) was appointed and planning for the project commenced.  Fredericksburg Architect Barry Wagner was engaged to provide design services and coordination of tender activities.

Following receipt of competitive bids a contract was awarded to the successful bidder, DR Welding & Construction, Inc. in November 2014.  Construction on site will commence January 2015 and the project is scheduled for completion by August 2015.  The Fire Department plans to moved in their new home in time to host the annual Fish Fry on September 5th, 2015.
