For the first time in 37 years the Doss Volunteer Fire Department will be cancelling their Labor Day weekend Fish Fry. The event, which was scheduled for September 5th, typically draws over 3,000 visitors and is successful thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers. Good food, cold beverages, an outstanding prize lineup and fine music always provide an enjoyable venue. However, an afternoon of fellowship is the biggest draw. With growing concerns and restrictions regarding coronavirus we do not see a way to provide this atmosphere without risking the well being of our guests and volunteers.
The department relies on profits from the annual fish fry to fund operating costs. As previously communicated to potential donors, funds donated for this year’s fish fry and prize giveaway will be reallocated to the department’s operating budget. We are grateful to all previous and future donors for enabling us to continue providing first response service to the community and surrounding area. More information on the department can be found at dossvfd.org and the department’s address is P.O. Box 31, Doss, Texas 78618.
